Long Time, No Post
Ok, I'm back. Sorry it has been a while, but I really do have a good excuse: I had surgery. I'm doing better than ever now and ready to blog again.
On Monday, Jake and I hit the books after nearly three weeks off of school. I can't believe how much better he is reading! Right now we are working through Sammy the Seal. He is reading it all by himself, except for the occasional new word. He is also cruising through math. We are still practicing order sentences (6 > 1, 2 = 2, etc.). And, without any prompting he has started to recite addition facts. He seems fascinated with the idea of adding different numbers together to get the same answer -- a great sign that he's actually grasping number theory and not just memorizing math sentences!
Today, we continued our family tradition of voting together. We explain to Jake what we are doing and how the ballot works. We believe voting is very much our duty as citizens of this country. We don't always like the candidates, the issues they are running on or the bills they are trying to pass, but it is a privilege that other people have fought and died to give to us. We do it to show our thanks to them. And, we do it in hopes that our grandchildren can live as good a life as we are living now.
